“Ten choreographers , a Musical Designer, Musical Director, and the entire creation team,” worked together to innovate the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL tour to the world stage, says Laura Silverman, a rep for the show.
“Michael’s live band, which played with him on tour, plays along with the show,” explains Silverman.
At the heart of the show are Michael Jackson’s classic and powerful songs and his iconic dance moves mixed with the acrobatic elements of Cirque du Soleil.
The tour also tells the story of Michael’s various other contributions. “This show is a celebration of Michael Jackson as an artist! Showcasing all of the impact he had on the Pop world and how his music, choreography, fashion, and messages changed the entertainment industry. He was a huge humanitarian and we also try and showcase that side of him,” explains Silverman.
Michael Jackson was a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil. He had seen several Big Top shows in California and visited their head office in Montreal. There was a great mutual respect between Cirque du Soleil and Michael Jackson and a desire to collaborate. There were no plans made before Michael passed, but after he died the Estate of Michael Jackson and Cirque du Soleil came together and thought it would be a tremendous way to celebrate his legacy by creating a show. “The Estate approached Jamie King who had worked with Michael and danced with him on the Dangerous Tour. Jamie, along with Chantal Tremblay, the Director of Creation with a long history working with Cirque, led the creation process.
The show combines the experience of a rock show with the Cirque de Soleil’s unparalleled creative dance and performance. The Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL tour is a celebration of the king of pop himself.
The show is currently in its American leg of the tour and tickets are available at the cirque website.
